Enter an Exhibit: Hundreds of Categories for Children and Adults

Are you thinking about entering exhibits in this year’s Fair, but aren’t sure what to enter? How about showcasing a child’s artwork from school, creating a fairy garden, baking cupcakes or cookies, entering a photo, making the Ugliest Decorated Cake, writing a poem, or showcasing fresh flowers or vegetables from your garden?  We also have some fun new categories this year – a cell phone photo contest, Minecraft, Zentangle art, homebrew, and kite decorating. There are hundreds of categories available for children and adults. Information is available in our Competition Handbook and here. So much fun to see what our talented community creates!

Enter an Exhibit in the Nevada County Fair

Start the Fair season now by entering an exhibit in the Nevada County Fair! Did you know that more than 7,000 exhibits were created by our talented community and featured at last year’s Fair?  The Nevada County Fair’s Competition Handbook, which includes all the information you need to enter exhibits in this year’s Fair, is now available. If you can make it, bake it, grow it or show it, there is a category for you – and it can be found in the Competition Handbook!

How about showcasing a child’s artwork from school, baking cupcakes or cookies, entering a photo, creating a produce character, making the Ugliest Decorated Cake, writing a poem, entering the Pet Look-A-Like photo contest, entering one of the daily special food contests, or showcasing fresh fruits or vegetables from your garden? This year, we have some fun new categories like a cell phone photo contest, Minecraft, Zentangle art, homebrew, kite decorating, and the California State Parks youth photo contest. With hundreds of categories available for children and adults, the Competition Handbook has something for everyone.

It’s easy to enter! Look through the book, pick your favorite categories, and follow the steps for completing the entry forms. You can even enter online here.  Most categories are free to enter, and you can enter online or at the Fair office. The deadline for submitting entry forms and online entries forms for still exhibits is July 23. Entries are limited to Nevada County residents only.

Copies of the free handbook are available at the Fairgrounds’ Office, Chamber of Commerce offices, post offices, county libraries, Raley’s, SPD, Ben Franklin, Foothill Mercantile, and other local businesses, as well as here.   

The 2018 Nevada County Fair is August 8 – 12, and the Fair theme is “Bushels of Fun!”

Quilt Show: May 6 and 7

This weekend at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, it’s the Pine Tree Quilt Guild’s “Springtime in the Pines” Quilt Show. Happening on Saturday and Sunday (May 6 and 7) from 10 am – 4 pm, there will be vendors, a country store, a quilter’s café, exhibits, a quilt appraiser, a boutique, and special exhibits. Deadline to Turn in Paperwork to Enter an Exhibit in the Fair is Friday

Are you going to enter an exhibit in this year’s Fair? If so, what? You have until the end of this week to turn in the paperwork!  It’s easy to enter, most categories are free, and it’s fun to see your exhibits on display at the Fair. Oh, and you’ll also get free admission to the Draft Horse Classic.

Competition Handbook Available: All the Info You Need to Enter an Exhibit

The Nevada County Fair’s Competition Handbook, which includes all the information you need to enter exhibits in this year’s Fair, is now available. If you can make it, bake it, grow it or show it, there is a category for you – and it can be found in the Competition Handbook!

Why not showcase a child’s artwork project from school, a cooking skill, or a special collection? Try baking cookies, entering a photo, creating a produce character, making the Ugliest Decorated Cake, writing a poem, entering the Pet Look-A-Like photo contest, or making a bookmark. This year, we have some new categories like blue jean art, creative yard art, toothpick art, or creating a string garden (Kokedama).

There are also lots of special contests like the Squash Mobile Races, Daily Special Food Contests, and an Instagram contest. With hundreds of categories available for children and adults – the Competition Handbook has something for everyone.
