There are little Fair reminders everywhere! 🙂 This beauty can be found in the RV Park at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Isn’t it fantastic?! A shout out to our gardener, Lindsay, for her creative work on this display and a huge thank you to Tom and Betty Dorville and family for the donation of the carriage to the Fairgrounds! We love that the community can enjoy this year-round!

Congratulations to the graduates of the 2018 Flower Arranging Workshop. This fun class is offered each year at the Fairgrounds by the Chicago Park Garden Club. Watch for these kids as they enter their floriculture exhibits at the Fair. Great job, kiddos. It was fun having you here today!
Start the Fair season now by entering an exhibit in the Nevada County Fair! Did you know that more than 7,000 exhibits were created by our talented community and featured at last year’s Fair? The Nevada County Fair’s Competition Handbook, which includes all the information you need to enter exhibits in this year’s Fair, is now available. If you can make it, bake it, grow it or show it, there is a category for you – and it can be found in the Competition Handbook!
How about showcasing a child’s artwork from school, baking cupcakes or cookies, entering a photo, creating a produce character, making the Ugliest Decorated Cake, writing a poem, entering the Pet Look-A-Like photo contest, entering one of the daily special food contests, or showcasing fresh fruits or vegetables from your garden? This year, we have some fun new categories like a cell phone photo contest, Minecraft, Zentangle art, homebrew, kite decorating, and the California State Parks youth photo contest. With hundreds of categories available for children and adults, the Competition Handbook has something for everyone.
It’s easy to enter! Look through the book, pick your favorite categories, and follow the steps for completing the entry forms. You can even enter online here. Most categories are free to enter, and you can enter online or at the Fair office. The deadline for submitting entry forms and online entries forms for still exhibits is July 23. Entries are limited to Nevada County residents only.
Copies of the free handbook are available at the Fairgrounds’ Office, Chamber of Commerce offices, post offices, county libraries, Raley’s, SPD, Ben Franklin, Foothill Mercantile, and other local businesses, as well as here.
The 2018 Nevada County Fair is August 8 – 12, and the Fair theme is “Bushels of Fun!”
The Nevada County Fair is partnering with the Nevada County libraries for its Summer Reading Program. Through this program, children read books and then create a project that will be on display at the Fair. Additionally, children who complete the program will receive coupons for two free carnival rides at this year’s Fair. Information can be found here. Happy reading!
In preparation for the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, June 14 – 17, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will be closed to pedestrians – walkers and bicyclists – beginning Saturday, June 9. The Fairgrounds will reopen its gates to walkers and bicyclists as usual on Monday, June 18. This closure does not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours. If you are interested in attending the Bluegrass Festival, visit here.
