Our club annually sponsors a spring Kid’s Trout Derby at Lion’s Lake in Grass Valley, California for boys and girls up through the age of 12. We charge NO admission fee and provide a soft drink and hot dog to each and every young person, at no charge, along with numerous prizes for the winners.
With the help of the California Department of Fish and Game and the Fish and Wildlife Commission we also pay for and stock the lake prior to the derby with thousands of pounds of Trout. The club always buys and plants some trophy size fish to ensure an enjoyable fishing experience for the kids. We have many loyal local sponsors that help us with donations of food, prizes, fishing gear and other essential ingredients for a successful derby.
In addition, our club members continually provide labor and materials to maintain and improve Lion’s Lake as well as other facilities throughout the Nevada County California Fairgrounds.
For all children ages 3 to 12 years old!
- Rainbow Trout will be stocked. State Fishing & Derby regulations will apply and be strictly enforced.
- Rain or shine event
- Sign-in begins at 7:00 am
- Fishing Derby from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon)
- Awards at approximately 12:30 pm
- Please bring your own fishing equipment. Prizes awarded and refreshments available.
