Donate Canned Food on Sunday of the Country Christmas Faire and Receive $1 Off Admission

The Nevada County Fairgrounds and Interfaith Food Ministry are teaming up at the Country Christmas Faire for a canned food drive to help feed those in need in Nevada County.

Bring a can of food (or two or three) to the Country Christmas Faire on Sunday, December 1, and you’ll receive a coupon for $1 off general admission to the Christmas Faire on that day. Volunteers from Interfaith Food Ministry will collect the cans at the food collection bins on that Sunday at the Fairgrounds from 10 am – 4 pm at Gates 1, 3 and 5, which is also where you’ll receive your coupon. One coupon per person. All food collected will be used to help feed those in need in Nevada County.

The Country Christmas Faire is happening Thanksgiving weekend, November 29, 30 and December 1 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Hours are 10 am – 5 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10 am – 4 pm on Sunday. Cost is $5, and free to children 12 and under. Parking is free.

Country Christmas Faire: November 29, 30 and December 1

The 35th annual Country Christmas Faire is happening at the beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley on November 29, 30 and December 1.

Four large exhibit buildings will be filled with unique handcrafted gifts, crafts and holiday décor, giving Fairgoers a chance to begin their holiday shopping and purchase quality handmade items, including ceramics, jewelry, wooden crafts, soaps and lotions, ornaments, stained glass, candles, beadwork, fiber arts, and thousands of other unique gifts created by talented artisans.

Visitors to the Faire will enjoy musical entertainment, a gingerbread house and holiday ornament display, a community bonfire, and wagon rides around the Fairgrounds. There will also be delicious food and beverages available.

Santa will be available in the Cowbell Barn from 11 am – 4 pm on Friday and Saturday and from 11 am – 3 pm on Sunday. Bring your camera to capture that special photo. Babysitting is offered by Girl Scouts of the Northern Mines Service Unit, so parents can drop off their children while they enjoy holiday shopping. Errand Elves from Clear Creek School will be at Main Street Center and available to assist with packages throughout the event.

Enter the Gingerbread House and Holiday Ornament Contest

There are two fun contests for holiday bakers, decorators and crafters to enter at this year’s Country Christmas Faire – a gingerbread house competition and the new holiday ornament contest.

The gingerbread house competition includes divisions for youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and groups. New this year is a Fairgrounds Building/Scene division for exhibitors who want to create a gingerbread house that represents a building or scene at the Fairgrounds.

Enter your best decorated ornament in this year’s new holiday ornament contest. With divisions for youth, adults and individuals with disabilities, exhibitors can either decorate a premade ornament or make an ornament from scratch. Class descriptions and rules are available here

The deadline to turn in entry forms is Friday, November 22 by 4 pm. To enter, complete the process online here or submit an entry form at the Fairgrounds Office on McCourtney Road. It’s free to enter! Ribbons will be awarded to winners in both contests, as well as Best of Show and People’s Choice prizes. All gingerbread houses and ornaments will be on display in Ponderosa Hall during the Country Christmas Faire.

The Country Christmas Faire features of the work of talented artisans who fill the Fairgrounds exhibit buildings with thousands of quality handmade crafts and unique gifts. Visitors can also enjoy holiday music, gourmet festival foods, wagon rides, and a community bonfire. Nevada County Fairgrounds Begins Winter Hours

Effective immediately the Nevada County Fairgrounds will return to its winter hours. The Fairgrounds’ gates will remain open during the week to the public, but will close each weekday at 4:30 pm and will be closed on weekends.

The winter hours do not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Additionally, the RV Park at the Fairgrounds will remain open during the winter months.
