Artwork Design Contest: Win $250

The Nevada County Fairgrounds is sponsoring a contest to find the best artwork to illustrate the 2015 Nevada County Fair theme – “Catch the Fair Bug!” – featuring bugs and insects. If you’re a talented artist, and you’d like $250, this is the contest to enter!

The contest, which is open to Nevada County residents only, takes place now through Friday, January 30. If you submit the winning artwork, you will win $250 and a 2015 Nevada County Fair package that includes admission tickets, parking and carnival coupons. Additionally, the winning artwork will be used on various Fair promotional pieces, print ads, buttons, banners, posters, and flyers.

Interested artists may use any medium, including photos, and can submit up to three entries, which must be on 8-1/2 by 11-inch paper. Entries can be delivered to the Fairgrounds Office at 11228 McCourtney Road or mailed to the Fair Office at PO Box 2687, Grass Valley, CA 95945. There is a drop box available for those who wish to leave their artwork at the office after hours or on weekends. A complete set of rules can be found here or by calling the Fair Office at (530) 273-6217.

The Center for the Arts Purchases California WorldFest

Congratulations to The Center for the Arts on the purchase of California WorldFest! Read the story here.

The Nevada County Fairgrounds has been fortunate to work closely with WorldFest producers Dan DeWayne and Christine Myers for almost 20 years. They are exceptional festival producers and have contributed greatly to our community through their love of music and through their passion to create a world-class music festival.

Together, they started the California World Music Festival 18 years ago, with their vision of bringing extraordinary world-wide music to our community and to the Nevada County Fairgrounds.  The festival has grown into a celebration of our world’s diversity and cultural richness.

While Dan and Christine will be greatly missed, we are delighted that The Center for the Arts has acquired WorldFest and will continue to culturally enrich our community. We look forward to working with The Center for the Arts to continue the tradition of the California WorldFest at “California’s Most Beautiful Fairgrounds.”

The 2015 California WorldFest is scheduled for July 16 – 19 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The 12th Annual Gingerbread House Competition was once again a crowd favorite, with 45 entries received. Of those entries, the Best of Show award went to the Files Family of Chicago Park, and the People’s Choice Award went to Kathy Kinney of Penn Valley.
