Roasting Chestnuts: Carrying on the Tradition (Thank You, Kathlene Snow)

In memory of her Dad, Dean Pitts, Kathlene Snow will be roasting chestnuts at this year’s Country Christmas Faire. For the past 10 years, Dean (picture here with Sharon, his wife of 64 years) roasted chestnuts at the bonfire at the Country Christmas Faire. When he passed away earlier this year, Kathlene decided to step in to continue the tradition. According to Kathlene, “the Country Christmas Faire was his event. He loved the people and the chance to volunteer. He became close friends with the firefighters who watched over the fire pit, and he loved visiting with the public. He never knew a stranger.  His shoes will be hard to fill, but I am thankful for the opportunity. It will be healing for us all.”  When visiting the Country Christmas Faire, be sure to stop by the community bonfire, try a roasted chestnut, and say hi to Kathlene (who will be wearing her Dad’s hat).

Thank You, Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation!

At Tuesday night’s Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation meeting, the Foundation Board approved funds to begin several projects at the Fairgrounds, including adding more shade to Treat Street, painting the Northern Mines Building and Sugar Pine Lodge, adding new air conditioners to Ponderosa Hall, and adding a mobile ATM. We’ll keep you posted on these projects once work begins in 2018, but we really want to thank our Fairgrounds Foundation (and all the members and volunteers) for all their hard work in raising funds to keep our Fairgrounds beautiful. We so appreciate you all!

Friends of the Fairgrounds: Rocky and Dewitt

Meet Rocky and his owner, Dewitt. Rocky brought his owner in the office a few weeks ago to donate money for the doggy bags found at the Fairgrounds and to thank us for letting him walk at the Fairgrounds. Dewitt says that he and Patricia (not pictured) have been walking with Rocky at the Fairgrounds for years because of its park-like setting and because it makes Rocky happy! Glad to see you out here, Patricia, Dewitt and Rocky; and, thank you, Rocky, for the donation! πŸ™‚
