Thank You, PRIDE

Thank you to this hardworking group from Pride Industries Foundation who spent the day raking the pine needles from the cow barns, as well as cleaning the ticket booths. We also had another group of individuals helping us in the office last week and we will continue to partner with PRIDE on a monthly basis. We are so appreciative of this team’s help, their smiles and their positive attitude. Keep up the good work, team, and know that you are making a difference at the Nevada County Fairgrounds!

Summer Hours at the Fairgrounds

Effective immediately, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will return to its summer hours, which means that the Fairgrounds inner grounds and gates will be open during the week and on the weekends from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The inner grounds and gates will be open during the week and weekends to walkers and bicyclists, but all must be off the grounds when the gates lock at 4:30 pm. The summer hours only apply to the inner grounds and gate closures; it does not affect the Fairgrounds Administration Office, the RV Park at the Fairgrounds, or any events that are taking place on the grounds during the summer months or on the weekends. Happy walking and cycling!

Lions Lake Habitat Restoration Project

Habitat restoration work began this week at Lions Lake at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. This project is being done in partnership with the Nevada County Resource Conservation District (RCD) and involves removing silt and trash from the lake, removing a block wall and replacing it with a rock wall, replacing failed culverts and doing shoreline stabilization.  When completed (in about 2-3 weeks) the lake will be healthier and there will be new walking trails around the lake. It’s important to note that the lake will NOT be fully drained. It will only be partially drained, and RCD worked with Fish and Wildlife on permits for the project, which includes safeguards for protecting wildlife. We are extremely thankful to RCD for their work and expertise on this project, and we can’t wait for the community to see the “new” lake.
