Shelby McClelland receives two prestigious awards. On Saturday evening, Shelby McClelland, a senior at Nevada Union High School, took home two master showmanship awards – one in the small animal division and another in the large animal division. This is the “best of the best,” the highest showmanship award granted by the Nevada County Fair, and to receive two master showmanship awards at the same time is an honor bestowed upon very few in the agricultural community...[more]

Press Release, August 12, 2010 --Huell Howser Visits Nevada County Fair
Visit is part of Howser’s PBS series on “California’s Golden Fairs.” Huell Howser, noted television personality and founder of the PBS program: California’s Gold, spent the day at the Nevada County Fair on Thursday. During his visit, Howser spent time on the Fair’s Treat Street, sampling the various foods and interviewing individuals from the various non-profit organizations represented on Treat Street. Students from Nevada Union FFA spend a morning at the Nevada County Fairgrounds planting 1,500 Marigolds in preparation for the Nevada County Fair. This is the fourth year that students enrolled in the horticulture class at Nevada Union – led by Karen Henderson, Agriculture Instructor and FFA advisor at Nevada Union – have grown the plants from seed and planted the Marigolds to create the walkway known as the Gold Path at the entrance of the Fairgrounds.

Fairgrounds recognized in industry for outstanding work in social media, Fair competitions. The Nevada County Fairgrounds received 25 awards at the 47th Annual Western Fairs Association’s (WFA) Achievement Awards held in Reno, Nevada, at the end of last month. The Nevada County Fairgrounds took home first-place honors for the Fair video created by Gold in the Foothills; its 2009 Draft Horse Classic event and several of its promotional pieces; and its “Ugliest Dang Cake” exhibit competition. Congratulations to Kathleen Woolsey of Grass Valley for submitting the winning artwork for the 2010 Fair logo design contest. Kathleen's design does an excellent job of representing the Nevada County Fair and this year's Fair theme of "Rooted in Tree-dition." Kathleen's design was chosen from more than 25 entries submitted by community members.
