Habitat restoration work began this week at Lions Lake at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. This project is being done in partnership with the Nevada County Resource Conservation District (RCD) and involves removing silt and trash from the lake, removing a block wall and replacing it with a rock wall, replacing failed culverts and doing shoreline stabilization. When completed (in about 2-3 weeks) the lake will be healthier and there will be new walking trails around the lake. It’s important to note that the lake will NOT be fully drained. It will only be partially drained, and RCD worked with Fish and Wildlife on permits for the project, which includes safeguards for protecting wildlife. We are extremely thankful to RCD for their work and expertise on this project, and we can’t wait for the community to see the “new” lake.
