The late Huell Howser visited the Nevada County Fair and Treat Street several years ago. If you missed the episode, KVIE Public Television is running the Nevada County Fair segment of his California’s Golden Fairs series tomorrow (Thursday, July 13) evening at 8 pm.
Here’s the episode, in case you can’t catch it tomorrow night. Enjoy!
Treat Street fun facts! Thanks to volunteers from Calvary Bible Church, the Fair chapel serves delicious coffee drinks and pastries during the Fair. The iced mochas are a particular hit during the Fair. Did you know that proceeds from their Fair sales support several local ministries – Interfaith Food (feeding hungry families in Nevada County), Christian Encounter (residential care and school for young people aged 16-25), and Booth Family Center (housing for families getting back on their feet). Thank you, Calvary Bible Church, for all your hard work on Treat Street! Photo by Kyle Shisler.
Enter an exhibit in the Nevada County Fair! If you can make it, bake it, grow it or show it – we have a category for you! The deadline to turn in paperwork is July 21. Plus, all those who enter an exhibit receive two free tickets to the Thursday performance of the Draft Horse Classic. Details are here.
In preparation for California WorldFest, July 13 – 16, the Fairgrounds will be closed to walkers and bicyclists beginning July 10. The Fairgrounds will re-open its gates to walkers and bicyclists as usual on Monday, July 17. This closure does not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. For tickets to WorldFest, visit here.

Congratulations to Sam Patton and Bekah Nunez, recipients of this year’s Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation Scholarships. The Foundation scholarship is awarded to local high school students who exhibit in the Fair, attend the Fairgrounds Foundation’s speaker series, and write an essay explaining what they learned from the speaker series. Sam graduated this year, is planning on attending Sierra College as an Agribusiness major, and exhibited cattle and vegetables at the 2016 Fair. Bekah also graduated this year, will attend CSU Chico (majoring in animal science), and exhibited a steer at the 2016 Fair. Both attended every speaker series event. Congratulations, Sam and Bekah!!
